Was there anything in the film that explains Phils behavior past the fact he’s a violent and impulsive lunatic? The ending was the culmination of Adam Sandler’s choices throughout the movie. Why did this happen? One can assume that Phil just lost his mind and decided he doesn’t care anymore because right after he kills Howard he kills his boss Arno as well for flipping out about Howard being killed. Addicts never find closure in their addiction. She asks a man who had been flirting with her to grab the money on her behalf since she had seen one of Arno’s thugs waiting to grab her. And they know his winning bet means that Howard can finally pay off the debt he owes to them.īut when Howard opens up the vestibule to let the thugs back in, because one assumes everything should be fine now that they all know Howard has the money and the debt can be paid off, Phil flips out and shoots Howard in the head. Uncut Gems Ending Explained: What Happened to the Money Something else that viewers would have wondered about in the end is this: what happens to the money Well, Julia ends up playing her cards smartly. The thugs at the end of the film, who are trapped in a security vestibule, see this for themselves. ![]() Howard isn't gambling against basketball scores, he is gambling against the patience and violent ways of those he is indebted to. It glorifies the allure of ignoring reality. Directed by Benny and Josh Safdie, the film follows Ratner (Adam Sandler), a charismatic and eccentric jeweler in the Big Apple's Diamond District, through a series. Uncut gems puts this desire directly against the reality of an imploding life, and thus matches gambling addiction perfectly. But at the end of the film, he bets and wins. The Uncut Gems ending comes almost as a sigh of relief, relinquishing the audience from two hours of unnerving and unrestrained stress courtesy of its main character, Howard Ratner. The whole film is about Howard Ratner (Adam Sandler) seemingly endlessly gambling in his life: With money, relationships and pretty much anything/everything. Arno, horrified, protests, but Phil rebels against. Just watched Uncut Gems (2019) for the first time and was thrown for a loop about the ending. Arno is astounded by this, but Phil, enraged, sick and tired of Howard, shoots him in the face, killing him.
